From my chair, I watch the sun rise rosy-pink,
in stillness, I blink, think,
drink coffee black,
listen to birds twitter-clack,
cats nap,
I map
adventures from this place
oceans, stars, outer space,
I wonder, how far thoughts travel, go,
then smile—I know
Today is Day 25 of NaPoWriMo. The prompt was to write about a space that is meaningful to you. I usually sit at the kitchen table and write, and I am very much a morning person. This is a quadrille for dVerse, the prompt was some form of the word “still.”
Love it! That bird that clacks is a Jackdaw!
Oh! Kerfe said something the other day about a few of us sort of channeling each other–maybe so. 🙂
I’ve mentioned jackdaws before and been told that you don’t have them in the US. I’ve just looked it up and you don’t. Yours must have escaped from a zoo…
I looked it up, too, and we don’t. But we do have crows, which are related, right?Sometimes ours are quite noisy. I actually love it, and usually go to the window to watch them.
Jackdaws are smaller and more elegant than crows. Makes them sort of more manageable. Crows are pretty big and when a whole flock of them turns up they tend to take over.
I guess I would have to see them side by side. 🙂
Reblogged this on Jane Dougherty Writes and commented:
Remembering the joys of reblogging. This is a good one.
I like how you describe your writing space and time of the day. It sounds peaceful and soft coloured.
Thank you so much. I like the quiet (except for birds) in the early morning–it’s peaceful. 🙂
As I said on Jane’s reblog! You got it!!!
Thank you, Damien. 🙂
And I’m smiling too. The bird sounds are my morning companions as well. They are quite exuberant this time of year. (K)
Thank you, Kerfe. They are! It’s a happy sound.
I’ll say it here as well as on Jane’s place – wow. Love this poem, and what a wonderful picture you have painted. I can see you.
Thanks so much, Claudia! I’m sitting here now, but time to get up and make dinner. 🙂
Nicely full of rhyme. Thoughts go to the universe and beyond.
Thank you, Frank.
Very imaginative…I love how our thoughts can go as far as we can ~
Thanks so much, Grace. I tried to comment on your spring fever poem–lovely–but I couldn’t get it to post.
I love the idea of mapping adventures with our thoughts to endless possibilities. ❤
Thank you, Olga!
Perfectly beautiful quadrille Merril…Bravo.
Thank you so much, Holly!
Well-wrought, as ever. Then there are rooks, ravens, and magpies 🙂
Thank you, Derrick.
And yes-all those, but I think we only have crows here. 🙂
I like how your “small, defined space” is just the beginning of something that is limitless.
That’s lovely, Ken. Thank you.
Such a peaceful, intimate feeling to this. Makes me want to go back to my early-morning writing routine!
Thank you! I would do well, if I just sat and worked in the morning, but I want to do everything then. 🙂
From your chair, you certainly travel far, Merril. Beautiful mind journey.
Thank you very much, Rose!
This felt light hearted, Merril. Yet, this holds so much. . . it could mean more than just a fun space to ponder and write. It seems deeper than the elements mentioned. I liked this use of imagination very much!
Thank you very much, Robin! I’m so glad this made you ponder.
It was a beautiful description within a poem. It evoked more pleasant thoughts as I note (second reading) clearly you smiled! 🙂
Thank you, Robin! 🙂
