Peder Severin Krøyer [Public domain] “Summer Evening at Skagen beach, the artist and his wife”
there with us,
purple shadows—
and above,
the moon,
diamond cool,
urging, what?
We want beauty and music
(so, we say)
Summer sea-sprayed lives
and the smell of storms
that blow away—
as life must—
but still—
you ask why?
I haven’t had much time to read or write poetry this week, but I didn’t want to miss my weekly consult with the Oracle. Her message seems appropriate for MLK weekend and the Women’s Marches today–and the Super Blood Moon lunar eclipse.
we ask why, because we couldn’t accept what is happening in our lives, and by keep on asking ourselves why, we are blocking ourselves, from tackling what we need to tackle in life…
Thank you–or perhaps we ask why, and then search for an answer.
“Summer sea-sprayed lives
and the smell of storms.” Beautiful, Merril!
Thank you, Jill!
Those vivid images are typical Oracle. I’m sure she lives in a cave overlooking the Aegean Sea. Again she asks questions, prompts us to find answers.
Yes, thank you. You are right about the images and questions. I think you’re also right about her cave overlooking the Aegean. 🙂
All of our poetic thoughts seem to come back to us reflected in that blue water.
They do–it’s weird–or perhaps, not. 🙂
It’s her vision, but we understand what she wants us to see.
Yes, exactly.
Beautifully written prose for my morning. Well done .. and welcome back!
Thank you very much Frank. I’m glad you enjoyed it. Still busy, but I got one assignment finished yesterday. 🙂
Why? That eternal question…
Beautifully done, Merril.
Thank you, Dale! 🙂
Light and shadows. Navigating life. Nice, Merril.
Thanks, Ken!
Always.
Nina and I consulted the Oracle together this week, will hopefully post tomorrow. We have stormier moons and also diamonds, but we do seem to be searching for the same thing….(K)
Thanks, Kerfe. I suppose sometimes its the questioning that keeps us going.
More questions than answers for sure.
Yes, always.
Lovely poem. I love that image: “diamond cool.”
Thank you so much!
The sibilant couplet shines out
That you very much, Derrick.
You could get proper wives in those days. (Laughs and winks.)
Nice verses too.
Hmmm. . . thanks!
