September Rain

Heron at dawn. Delaware River at Red Bank Battlefield.

September Rain

Early morning is heron-still,
the grey wing-brushed sky waits
for feathered clouds to part,

or sprinkle diamond drops
around sunflowers’ throats,
who smile and tilt their heads,

offer tiny mirrors to bees,
to see a world worked in threads reflected blue,
invisible to us.

A quadrille for dVerse. We’re getting much-needed rain today.

  1. Absolutely beautiful! A heron-still morning….I’ve experienced those at dawn in Provincetown, and most recently, standing on our aft cabin’s deck in the midst of the North Sea with no sound around me except the whooshing of the wake.

  2. This is just so lovely. I wanted to be out and feel the raindrops. Love the heron-still, the diamond drops around the sunflowers’ throats, the tiny mirrors to bees….
    The whole thing, what!

    • Thank you, Luanne. I didn’t think it got so humid there. Hot and humid is our typical weather for July and August–we had the heat and humidity, but not the rain. It was good to get rain, and we may get more next week.
